Septic Leach Field Installation

Septic Leach Field Installation

Leach field and drain field are the same thing

A leach field and a drain field are the same component. So are an absorption field and a disposal field. Which term you hear depends on who installed your system and when, but the thing in the ground is identical: the network of trenches that takes liquid effluent from your septic tank and returns it to the soil.

Because it is one component, we keep one full guide rather than two half ones.

Where the full guide is

Our septic drain field installation and replacement page covers how to tell the field is failing rather than the tank, when it can be repaired instead of replaced, what our King County inspection records show about which system types fail most often, the county permit path, and what drives the cost.

If you have been told you need a leach field replaced, that is the page to read. Either way the first step is a site and soil evaluation, because that determines what you will be permitted to install.
