Septic System Cleaning

Septic cleaning and septic pumping are the same service

Some companies say cleaning, some say pumping, and the work is identical. A truck draws the accumulated solids and scum out of your tank and hauls them to an approved treatment facility.

What it is not is a cleaning of the drain field. Nothing a pump truck does reaches the field, and no additive restores one. Washington's additive statute rests on a legislative finding that additives can render drain fields dysfunctional, which is worth knowing before anyone sells you one. Septic treatment and additives.

Two things worth knowing while you are here

The regional median interval between pump-outs runs just under three years, though yours depends on tank size and household load rather than on a rule of thumb.

And pumping is not the same thing as the inspection the state requires. Under WAC 246-272A-0270 that is at least every three years for a septic tank with a gravity drain field, and annually for every other system type. Septic inspections.

Both tanks were pumped, and root intrusion in every riser was noted for resealing.
