SEPTIC TANK MAINTENANCE TIPS
  1. Be mindful of what goes into your sink, basins and toilet(s) - avoid anything but water, human waste and toilet paper. Try to use natural kitchen and bathroom cleaning products to prevent harsh chemical cleaners from damaging your septic tank.
  2. Get annual inspections and pumpout frequently - get a reliable septic contractor to inspect your tank annually for problems and have your septic pumped out anywhere from annually to 5 years.
  3. Look after your drainfield - don't put heavy objects on your drainfield such as a car, don't plant trees nearby to avoid roots growing into your tank, and avoid other drains from emptying and potentially flooding your drainfield.
  4. Manage water use - install energy efficient toilets and appliances that use less water, install shower and faucet flow restrictors, and spread out laundry washing over several days to reduce potential flooding of your drainfield.
