Project Spotlight: Gig Harbor Septic Inspection and Repair

Upfront Septic responded to a septic system alarm at a property in Gig Harbor, WA after the pump tank reached a flooded state and the high-level alarm was activated. Upon arrival, our technician pumped the pump tank and also pumped approximately 1,125 gallons from the septic tank to help reduce the system's current load.

During the inspection, several issues were identified with the septic system. The pump was not activating and appeared to have charred components, indicating that it may have failed and requires further evaluation or replacement. The junction box located inside the pump tank riser was also not properly sealed, leaving the electrical connection exposed to potential moisture intrusion.

The pump tank riser is primarily constructed of concrete and showed some root intrusion at several locations. The pump tank lid also had minor damage around one of the screw holes and along one section of its edge.

The septic tank risers are made of plastic and have flat concrete lids positioned on top. These lids are not airtight or watertight, which can allow water and debris to enter the system. Additional tank lids on the property appear to be installed without risers.

Upfront Septic's service addressed the immediate flooded condition by pumping the tanks while also documenting several components that require attention. Repairing or replacing the failed pump, properly sealing the junction box, addressing root intrusion, and improving the seals and condition of the tank risers and lids can help protect the septic system and improve its long-term reliability.
