13.8% of septic properties in Vashon have no pump-out on record at all. That is not the same as never pumped: county filings only become dense from about 2013, and a company that does not report would never appear. What it does mean is that nobody can currently demonstrate when those tanks were last serviced. Of the properties that do have one on file, 34.5% have not had a pump-out in more than five years, which is past the outside edge of the three-to-five-year range the EPA describes.
One caution on comparing towns. Some of the variation between them is real and some of it is a difference in how consistently pump-outs get filed locally, and these records cannot separate the two. Treat the figures as a description of Vashon's paperwork as well as its plumbing.
